Closed for Military Operations

SAN DIEGO – The Old Highway 101 bike path through Camp Pendleton will be closed between Las Pulgas Road and San Onofre State Park during the day on Monday through next Friday due to military operations in the area.

Caltrans will open the outside freeway shoulders along I-5 from Las Pulgas Road to Basilone Road to bicycle traffic during the closures. Detour signs will be placed and signs will also advise bicyclists that they must exit at all off-ramps, weigh stations and vista points to avoid the possibility of conflicts with vehicular traffic.

Motorists are asked to Share the Road and to pay particular attention when bicyclists are present.

California residents biking & walking twice as much

California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) just released its comprehensive California Household Travel Survey. Results show that the percentage of California residents walking, bicycling, and using public transportation doubled since 2000. About one quarter of household trips surveyed on an average day were taken by sustainable transportation.  California residents may be choosing transportation options for a variety of reasons including awareness/concern of health and climate change, and the availability of safe solutions. Safe solutions are dedicated bicycle paths, bicycle lanes, and pedestrian walkways.
